Rotary Club Of New Tampa 2007-2008 Goals and Objectives
A major goal for this year and years to follow will be to increase our focus on international projects. Last year we successfully partnered with a “twin club” in our zone, St. Thomas Sunrise, and qualified for a matching grant for Mort Manatee Market. This year we intend to support one of their projects with a matching grant. Our major international project this year will be a literacy project in Guatemala, in which we plan to work with a major, well-organized, ongoing project in of Guatemala to create self-sustaining books/computer centers for the children in the Mayan area of Guatemala. The project allows clubs to participate in the distribution process, and we will be encouraging members to fly down to help in February. We also intend to work with the District and International on several other projects: (1) a matching grant for burn victims in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a potential partnership with a club Portugal that is interested in learning more about the Manatee Market, and a carry-over project from last year of a donation to the women of Afghanistan. We will be looking at partnering with a club in Kabul and getting a matching grant. Finally, several members of the club will be attending the Projects Fair in Costa Rica to investigate future opportunities to help the area.
In the Vocational Awareness arena, we plan to search out and recognize local heroes who, through their actions and contributions to the community, have provided a positive impact, as well as to serve as a role model to others. Award winners will be invited to our club for a short presentation and an award of the certificate/plaque.
In the local community, we plan continue the support of our “Centennial Project” at Mort Elementary School, with a new emphasis on literacy. Thanks to immediate Past President Gordy Larson, we have successfully partnered with our twin club to win a grant supporting the Mort Manatee Project.
Continue to support Rotary Camp Florida, having “adopted” the assembly hall at Rotary’s Camp Florida for all users of our camp. The BOD has approved this endeavor as a “Legacy Project”, dedicated to and named after one of our District’s most outstanding Rotarian’s – our club founder Mr. Bill Leonard and his wife, Betty.
Continue to support the new University of South Florida Rotaract Club and involve it’s members with our club activities and Rotary’s Camp Florida.
Support and mentor the Freedom High School Interact Club and involve the students with our club activities, along with activities at Rotary’s Camp Florida.
Fellowship within the club has always been a first and foremost objective to all we do in our fundraising efforts.
We plan to raise monies through our 3 major fundraising events, they are: 1) Pig Roast/Raffle 2) Casino Nigh & 3) the annual Golf Tournament.
Communications goal – Information on all members will be maintained in the new district website database. Our club website will also be maintained with up-to-date information on the calendar of events, leadership, goals and objectives, and other pertinent information. We will continue to produce our award-winning club bulletin, thanks to our illustrious bulletin editor, Craig Miller.
Support the Rotary Foundation goal this year of $100 per member.
Continue to grow membership by increasing membership to 1 new net member for the Rotary year.
Earn the District’s Presidential Citation for Outstanding Clubs.
Lastly, our Membership Director will be formalizing the paperwork and recording process for existing and prospective members. One major goal is to have all new member information (full contact) disseminated to the club via e-mail.
