Mike Wallace, Event Chairman for the upcoming 5th Annual New Tampa Rotary Pig Roast, has just announced another will be added to the activities already planned for the day: A Pig-Nose Photography Contest!
Couples, families and friends can pose with pig noses for local expert photographers Bob Thompson and Peter Gambacorta. Rotary judges will select winners who are deemed most “pig-nose” photogenic and “biggest hams”. They will receive prizes - free breakfasts (with bacon) or lunches (with ham) at Rotary and other pig-related prizes.
The Pig Roast will be held Sunday, February 24, 2008 from 2 PM to 5 PM on the grounds of the St. Marks Catholic Church on Cross Creek Blvd. and will feature BBQ pork, chicken, beans, slaw and rolls, and beer, wine, sodas, live entertainment, and a giveaway of $ 5,000 in cash prizes. Tickets are limited to the first 500 people. $25 tax-deductible donation tickets are available from any New Tampa or New Tampa Noon Rotary member or by calling Mike Wallace at 765-0707.
This year the New Tampa Rotary Club has joined together with the New Tampa Noon Rotary Club to host the event and further develop the pig roasting competition. Teams will compete by roasting whole pigs overnight Saturday. Last years winner, for the second year in a row, was “Sir Pigs A Lot and the Knights of the Holy Grill”, from New Tampa Rotary. They will compete with the New Tampa Noon Club’s group, the Circles Restaurant “Roast Around the Clock” Rotarians. Leroy Selmon’s will also donate huge helpings of pork, beans, slaw, rolls and chickens; and Pepin Distributors will handle the beverage needs.
The event supports the New Tampa Rotary Club Foundation, which primarily supports local charities. This year all proceeds will benefit local public school programs: the Oasis Network and the Mort Elementary Manatee Project.
