On December 2, 1995, the Rotary Club of New
Tampa was chartered with 65 members. Today the club has
more than 85 members and is growing.
The club meets at the Tampa Palms Country Club each Friday at 7
a.m. The traditions of Rotary are kept alive as each meeting
opens with the 4-Way Test and closes with the Rotary Motto.
Money raised for our club foundation supports many charitable
organizations in the community as well as scholarships.
In addition to our regular Friday meeting, the club holds a
happy hour Friday evening at 6 at the Tampa Palms Country Club
where members can meet and socialize in an informal setting.
Members came out in support
of the Club's premier event, the Change of Command
Dinner. Past President Mike Wallace received Rotarian of
the Year and Robert Garofano was named Rookie of the
Year. The president's award was shared by Richard Morgan
for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Manatee Market
and Craig Miller for his work with the club bulletin and
the Rotary newscast.
Unfortunately the events were not recorded because there
were no cameras present, not even a point and
shoot.

Robert Garofano
Robert grew up in Hartsdale, NY and got
into the restaurant business at age 14 with KFC. He has
been in the business for the past 25 years, the last 10
in Tampa. Although he has worked at other jobs including
golf caddy, he has always been in the food service
business.
"I've always been a gym nut," said Robert. He
was once a body builder and loves to pump iron.
Sports are not his thing unless it his daughter who
plays Soccer or his son who is a Lacrosse player.
Robert loves to ride bikes provided they
are made by Harley Davidson with a motor. On occasion he
has ridden with Craig Miller. "My business keeps me
pretty busy so I really treasure any time away from
it," said Robert. His other hobby is smoking a good
cigar. His favorite cigar is San Cristobal from Havanah,
Cuba, but he would settle for a good Rocky Patel. Robert
joined Rotary to give back to the community and supports
many organizations in New Tampa. Robert invites all
Rotarians to visit his new restaurant Ciccios Lodge
Restaurant and Bar where the Lime used to be. For July
wear your Rotary pin and get 15% off your bill.
Steve Barger receives an award
for his outstanding Club Service. Steve
consistently comes through for our club projects
through his generous donations and event
sponsorship. When others say no Steve always
says yes.
